Will setting back my thermostat in the winter really save me that much money?
Setting back your thermostat is a double edge sword. The utility companies want people to set the thermostats back as far as possible to save on gas. However, if you set your thermostat back too far, you will be using almost twice as much gas in order to get the heat back to normal room temperature.
Excessive set backs eliminate much of the advantages of using less gas while you are sleeping or not at home. Our recommendation is to set it back 2-4 degrees. This way you will still see an energy savings and be at your desired temperature when you need it.
